How do the visions of mystics arise in the brain? Can doublings, immaterial presences, prophetic voices be a consequence of the techniques codified and used, for example in Jewish Kabbalah and Hesychasm, in Sufism and in the Buddhist tradition? Techniques that would modify the state of consciousness, producing perceptual alterations comparable to those induced by drugs or neurological diseases?
On November 29th, in room 1 of the LAC in Lugano, starting from 6.00 pm, two giants of mystical studies will discuss it: prof. Moshe Idel, considered the highest world authority on Kabbalistic studies, and prof. Antonio Rigo, equally authoritative and recognized expert on hesychasm and relationships with eastern mystical practices, in an original discussion with the neuroscientist Shahar Arzy, who together with Idel recently published the essay: Kabbalah. A neurocognitive approach to mystical experiences.
Conference in English and Italian, with simultaneous translation service. Free entry.
The conference was organized by Braincircle Italia in collaboration with Lac Arte e Cultura, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Spitzer Foundation and ASI, and with the patronage of the Faculty of Theology of Lugano.
